Arthur And The Invincibles - Cash, Gold & Radio Controlled

It has been a long time coming but now it has arrived... a new AATI EP. Entitled 'Cash, Gold and Radio Controlled' it is a 4 track strong release that comes across as punchy as you like. The lead single 'Reaper' (below) is a jagged little number that does sway more on the morbid side of life that wouldn't be out of place sound-tracking some morally twisted fairytale.

The rest of the EP keeps things fresh by straying to the sunnier side of the street. Party For Two being a relatively straight up romantic song, well as close as you would want AATI to get. Jangly indie pop with catchy choruses. Nuff said.

If PFT is the night before, then Rock, Paper, Scissors is for sure the morning after. Anthemic with ease, this track is my personal favourite off of the whole EP. Driving guitar riffs and drum lines make the track flow by with charm, plus the addition of great, ear worm worthy lyrics make this number a clear soon to be crowd favourite.

This Time Next Year is short shortest song coming in at well under the 2 minute mark, but it is easily the most powerful. Strong, strong vocals and simple yet energetic drum/guitar work will keep your head nodding and feet tapping well into the 10th or 11th relisten.

Be sure to buy a copy at all good music purchasing locations and love the EP for yourself.

DICE Podcast - Episode 6 SCS

SoundCloud Song

This post I decided on not so much of a song but more a particularly interesting podcast. Specifically The DICE Podcast episode 6. In this episode, the brilliant Jen Long (below) takes the trip to Australia to go to the Laneway Festival. She talks with East India Youth, a chap from Health and one of the creators of the festival: St. Jerome. The festivals history is it started way back in 2005 and in a similar way to festivals like The Vans Warped Tour, they take the artists around to different cities each week to perform. The festival has finished for this year but by the sounds of it, it was a pretty magical time had by all. Looking at the line up I would take the trip to see Fidlar and Chvrches alone and just go where the wind takes me for the rest of the festival becasue there are so many good bands playing. Laneway currently runs mainly around Australia with spots in Detroit and Singapore but I hope great festivals like this get the support they deserve and continue to get better and better. Amazing podcast which I hope you take the time to listen to. Enjoy!

The Wild Reeds - NPR Tiny Desk Concert YTV

24/11/15 YouTube Video

What better way to bring Autumnal cheer than this three song concert from The Wild Reeds. They visited the NPR space and performed a great acoustic set featuring a track from their début album and a couple of new ones which equally kill it. The thing that I loved the most about this video is that it is rare to see bands with multiple lead singers that have such a high standard of vocals that they could easily front the band by themselves. I think The Staves are similar but The Wild Reeds just have an edge over them with their multi instrumental-ism. It is also nice to hear the harmonica being used not just by a grizzled old man sitting on a wooden crate. Enjoy!

Strand Of Oaks - NPR YTV

23/06/15 YouTube Video

NPR have pulled another brilliant session out of the bag inviting Strand Of Oaks to play for their Tiny Desk Concert feature. I watch most of the Tiny Desks that they release and there has been good ones fairly regularly but nothing has been as good as this session in a long time.

Through the session he plays 3 tracks: Goshen 97, Plymouth and JM. Starting with Goshen 97, it shows the vocal capabilities of Timothy Showalter and I was pleasantly surprised at the range he could produce. With Plymouth he moved from a Telecaster to play what looks like a Fender Telecoustic (funny little instrument) with a gorgeous effect added through a pedal that I have rarely if never heard before in such a stand alone way and I am so envious his guitar playing. JM is the 7 minute belter that closes the set and it is one of a select few tracks that doesn't have me reaching for my phone by half way through, he just has a way of keeping me captivated throughout. Extremely talented guy. Enjoy!

YouTube Video O.T.W. 22/04/14

White Denim on KEXP

The main reason I have chosen this video is because I am going to see White Denim live in Birmingham pretty soon and this has really got me pumped up for their show. In this video they perform about 4 tracks for the Seattle radio station KEXP and they have a little chat with the host, and this is one of the least awkward conversations that I have heard on these live videos they release. Some of the other hosts are slightly out there with the topics to talk about. Anyway, back to the music. The guitar playing I found very impressive, the guitarist was pulling off some very nice riffs which showed real skill. The front man's singing is very recognisable and his sound is really pleasant to listen to. As a whole I think they are a great band both live and on record so if you have time you should check them out.

If you like this video or not, let me know in the comment section below. Thanks.

BBC Radio 6 Music

Basically I want to show my fondness for the radio station that is BBC Radio 6 Music. It is one of my favorite radio stations ever and easily my favorite BBC radio station. They play a great mix of music from all different decades. Mainly quality rock and alternative music which is the genres I like the most. This week there are live music sessions at Maida Vale. Just yesterday The Strypes played a great set and The Foals & Everything Everything and more will be playing later on in the week which is gonna be brilliant.

One band that I have found out about through the station is Mama Rosin. Song to check out:
