The Joy Formidable - The Last Thing On My Mind SCS

Yet another single from a highly anticipated album. This seems to be the time for great new releases. On this occasion it is from the rockers The Joy Formidable (or FormidaaBleh however you want to say it). The Last Thing On My Mind which is from their March release titled 'Hitch' is 6 minutes of magic. The psychedelia tinged guitar coupled with the basic complimentary rocksteady drums are a winning formula to work with the intense but beautiful vocals from Rhiannon Bryan. Other similar length tracks in this genre have at times seemed forced, dragged out and leaving me losing the will to live but this track does a brilliant job fighting my stereotype and making the longer track something to be excited in again. Excellent track this week from the Pretenders. I recently purchased the Chrissie Hynde book and as soon as it came through the door I couldn't put it down (without lack of trying). It documents her life, well the earlier years and I was interested to find out that she spent so much of her life outside of the U.S., travelling to the U.K. and France for substantial periods of her life. I don't know why I presumed she still lived in America but I just thought the bands sound had elements of that New York punk era. After completing the book, I have been listening to the first two Pretenders albums, the first one being where the track below (Brass In Pocket) is taken. A classic track that is still a hit to this day Enjoy!

Seth Pettersen - Me N My Cutaway SCS

The song that is killin' it this week is Me N My Cutaway off of the 2015 album (Sweet Reaper) by Seth Pettersen. It is one of the more fast paced and scuzzy tracks from the album which is one of the reasons it is one of my favourites. When I listen to it I am reminded of my teenage years skating through the town centre with my group of mates and being generally unruly little boys. I think I get this from the song having a cutting punk rock kinda sound with the high screeching of the guitars the style of vocal that the song is sung in.  Also the fact that it seems to fly by just leaves me wanting more. Enjoy!

Last weekend was a bit of a concert feast. On Saturday night I went to see Jake Evans play at The Deaf Institute and on Sunday night I went to Phil Busbys album release gig at The Castle Hotel. Both gigs were great for many varied reasons such as talent and guitar skills, and one of the best songs played was the one in the video below. Jake played it as one of his closing tracks to finish off the night and with the whole room singing along, it really was quite a spectacular moment to be a part of. I am looking forward to hearing more from Jake in the near future with his new album release etc. Enjoy!

'90s throwback tune, Len - Steal My Sunshine really reminds me of the summer time growing up as a little boy playing in the park (most likely climbing trees or the like). It has hints of Smash Mouth, Uncle Kracker and other bubblegum pop-rock artists. The video for this track is heavily laden with cheese, with the group riding around on mopeds on the coast, wearing tank tops and sports shades but that all adds to that late 90's feel which is all part of my love for this track. Enjoy!

This is a video I have been waiting for for a while now. It is from the well hyped band Circa Waves with their latest release Stuck in My Teeth. As a video concept it is kept pretty simple, nothing too crazy. The camera is on constant rotation showing the members of the band singing the song whilst time passes in various contexts. A slightly amusing bit is watching their shadows mimicking their movements...as best they can haha. I am looking forward to hearing and seeing more from these boys. Great track.
