Skaters - Head On To Nowhere YTV
01/03/16 YouTube Video
This week I have chosen the latest track released by one of my favourite bands the NYC homies Skaters. Their first LP Manhattan was easily one of my favourite records of 2014 so boy am I glad they are back with new music. After hearing that they have left Warner Music to do their own solo thing (I presume) I was interested to hear what the new songs off of the next album will be like. Head On To Nowhere is a track that definitely didn't disappoint. Sharing the same scuzzy pop punk sound from their earlier release, this song wouldn't sound out of place in amongst their first album but it can easily be a brilliant lead track for what is to come. It is clear that leaving a major label hasn't affected them in terms of music quality, they are still as great as I remember. Enjoy!

The Joy Formidable - The Last Thing On My Mind SCS
SoundCloud Song
Yet another single from a highly anticipated album. This seems to be the time for great new releases. On this occasion it is from the rockers The Joy Formidable (or FormidaaBleh however you want to say it). The Last Thing On My Mind which is from their March release titled 'Hitch' is 6 minutes of magic. The psychedelia tinged guitar coupled with the basic complimentary rocksteady drums are a winning formula to work with the intense but beautiful vocals from Rhiannon Bryan. Other similar length tracks in this genre have at times seemed forced, dragged out and leaving me losing the will to live but this track does a brilliant job fighting my stereotype and making the longer track something to be excited in again. Enjoy!

Bleached - Keep On Keeping On YTV
02/02/16 YouTube Video
The Bleached girls are back with an absolute banger! Keep On Keeping On is the first release from their upcoming album Welcome The Worms which is out on April the 1st. I love the darker tones that this song has over their previous releases. The obsessive, creepy stalkerish nature of the video does a great job at giving you an unsettled feeling during the whole length of the track but with a romantic hint it makes sure you stay glued to the screen. Classic vocals and lyrics as always. Enjoy!

Phoenix - Alone on Christmas Day SCS
SoundCloud Song
To keep the Christmas feeling going is this cheery number from Phoenix. As part of the guest heavy Netflix special A Very Murray Christmas with Bill Murray, Phoenix performed Alone on Christmas Day with Murray throwing in a bit of backing singing and Jason Schwartzman on the drums for extra goodness. The great thing about this track is how they spin an ultimately sad story about being alone into a happy and positive. It is a song that I would happily have as part of the Christmas playlist in the backgroung when I am tucking into my turkey and stuffing. Enjoy!

Jake Evans - Easy On My Soul YTV
28/07/15 YouTube Video
Last weekend was a bit of a concert feast. On Saturday night I went to see Jake Evans play at The Deaf Institute and on Sunday night I went to Phil Busbys album release gig at The Castle Hotel. Both gigs were great for many varied reasons such as talent and guitar skills, and one of the best songs played was the one in the video below. Jake played it as one of his closing tracks to finish off the night and with the whole room singing along, it really was quite a spectacular moment to be a part of. I am looking forward to hearing more from Jake in the near future with his new album release etc. Enjoy!

The Tallest Man On Earth - Dark Bird Is Home MA
May Album
Notable albums this month come from Best Coast, Du Blonde, Hop Along, Brandon Flowers and more but my favourite is the 4th studio album from The Tallest Man On Earth called Dark Bird Is Home. Through listening to the album, I fall for everything he sings about even if at first I don't fully understand that what he is singing about. After multiple listens I was hooked and in the palm of his hand like warm putty. This is just a testament to him as a lyricist and a musician who has the ability to convey strong messages in the short limited length of a song. I hope you enjoy the whole album in the video below as much as I do.

Holly Drummond - Blame It On Me YTV
30/09/14 YouTube Video
Holly Drummond is an artist that I have championed for a long while now. She is a Scottish singer songwriter who has produced a few great EPs, which you can get from her BandCamp page. This track was made popular by the equally brilliant George Ezra and this version is definitely more spooky, slow and sultry compared to the upbeat and bouncy style of the original. Holly has the ability to make you really listen to the lyrics of a track because every word she sings carries emotion and a sense of power that makes you focus and pay close attention. Beautiful. Enjoy!

Beans On Toast - Can't Take Another Earthquake YTV
05/08/14 YouTube Video
I have just came back from Camp Bestival and what better choice for a video than to praise two of the artists that performed a great set at the festival. This track from all the way back in 2011 is from Beans On Toast featuring Kate Tempest. It is one of BOTs more child friendly tracks with a catchy chorus even with serious issues included that went down really well on the Sunday afternoon. It was also fun to here how he edited down some of his more adult themed songs for the younger audience but his style of song writing and playing didn't diminish and will always sound good to me. Enjoy!

YouTube Video Of The Week! 18/03/14
This choice was slightly out of the blue. I was going through my YouTube playlist as I do daily as you know and my ears perked up a bit when this video started playing. KEXP post a load of great sounding artists live performances on their channel which I generally watch but this one sounded a little bit more to my liking than the average vid. They are a band called Tangerine who I was totally new to but they have a sweet like drifty beach pop rock sound which by the end of their few song set I was totally on-board. Check it out!!!
